Basic Pasta Sauce

For today’s back to basics post I thought I’d share my go to Basic Pasta Sauce recipe.

It’s what it says on the label: an easy tomato sauce for your pasta, made with store cupboard staples. I bet you have all the ingredients in right now and if not they’re cheap to buy in your local store. Best of all it tastes delicious!

INGREDIENTS

2 Tins of Chopped Tomatoes

2 Tins of Tap Water

2 Red Onions (or any 2 you have to hand)

1 Tablespoon Tomato Puree

1 Tablespoon Minced Garlic

1 Tablespoon Dried Basil

1 Tablespoon Oregano

METHOD

Finely dice your onions. Add them to a deep frying pan with your oil of choice, I use rapeseed oil in general. Place over a medium heat and fry until softened.

Add the oregano, basil, minced garlic and tomato puree to the onions and mix together for a few minutes.

Then add in your two tins of chopped tomatoes. Refill the tins with water and add it to the pan.

Stir everything together until the sauce comes to a boil, then turn the temperature down to low and leave it simmer for 20 to 30 minutes or until the sauce reduces by about half.

Top over your favourite pasta or reduce by half again to make pizza sauce.

Enjoy!
