Kitchen Renovation Week Three

Hey Everyone,

I hope this past week has been a better one for you than it has for me! I slipped over while doing my day job last Thursday and have either sprained my wrist or got a scaphoid fracture. Luckily it’s my left not my right hand so I'm still able to type!

Its taken several days to work out how to function one handed, without causing myself unnecessary pain. I’m now ready to jump back into my blog and Instagram, so keep your eyes peeled for more content coming soon!

One of the things that did go well last week was the progress with our building work. It's amazing how much the project has moved on in only five days so I'll jump right into the work completed in the last week!

Day One

Monday was very much a fix last weeks issues and prepare for the week ahead kind of day.

The builders removed the sliding doors between the new kitchen and sun room to create a great open space. This made the old Dining Room so much brighter and the space feel huge! They then raised the sunroom floor to be level with the new kitchen floor ready for when the new floors get installed. Unfortunately we were told the tiles that my husband and I had finally agreed upon probably wouldn't work in the space due to the three different types of flooring underneath. This set us back to square one in the decision making process.

Once that was done, they moved on to install the light fixture, switch and plug sockets for the pantry.

Meanwhile the plumber moved the boiler around, from the external wall to the boundary wall. This way it will fit into the larder units which are meant to go over it.

Everyone in the house on Monday got involved through the day in trying to find outside water stop cock. This was needed so the plumber can move the internal stop cock into the new kitchen island. The process included finding an ants nest under inspection chamber in our driveway, a call to our local water company to check if they had a record of where it should be and walking up and down the road outside the house to try and find it! By the end of the day we had narrowed down our options to two possibilities.

Day Two

Tuesday started with the builders digging out the ants nest, to check our option one. Thankfully, they were able to uncover the external stopcock. The plumber switched off our water supply goer for several hours while he moved the internal stopcock to where our new island will be located.

While he was working on that the builders were able to bring the new steel to support the upper level of the house in and set it into place between the old Kitchen and Dining Room.

It was surreal to see the opening through the rooms with no supports in place.

Day Three

Wednesday and Thursday saw attention turn to building out the new Laundry Room in the garage.

As Wren had delivered our kitchen early in the building process we have been storing it in our Garage. However for the Laundry Room to be built out, space needed to be made. The guys moved half the boxes for the new kitchen into Sun Room and left the other half in the Garage.

The builders then started to build the floor frame and the wooden frame of the walls for the Laundry Room.

Day Four

On Thursday our builders finished building the base to the Laundry Room floor. They also fixed the wooden frame which forms the base of the walls to the room to the Garage. This was great so we could see how the room will come together.

Before they left for the day they installed a light and the remaining wires for the new sockets and plumbing for the sink and washing machine for the Laundry Room. The Garage light was also moved further down into the new Garage Space.

Day Five

On Friday the preparation works for the French door installation started. The Lean-To roof was removed along with the old external door. This allowed the boiler could be vented outside.

Thank you so much for coming along on this journey. I'll be back next Monday with week fours update and throughout the week with autumnal recipes!

Thank you,

Ju xx
