Easy Peasy Apple Pie

Autumn for me means getting to pick fresh fruit if our apple tree and an abundance of apple based treats. One of my favourite treats to make is this Easy Peasy Apple Pie, my Grandad taught me how to make this. It's simple to make and turns out delicious every time.

INGREDIENTS

225g Plain Flour

100g Salted Butter

25g Sugar

5 Tablespoons of Lukewarm Water

1/2 a Sachet of Ground Arrowroot

4 Cooking Apples

1 Cup Sugar

METHOD

Preheat your oven to 150°C.

Add the plain flour, salted butter and 25g sugar to a large mixing bowl.

Rub the ingredients together to form a breadcrumb texture. Add some lukewarm water to the bowl and knead to form a dough.

Take approximately half the dough. Sprinkle some flour over your countertop and roll out the pastry and place in your pie dish.

Sprinkle half a sachet of ground arrowroot into the base of the pie.

Peel and finely slice four cooking apples.

Place a layer of apples onto the pie crust. Sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar over the apples. Repeat until the apples are used up.

Roll out the remaining dough and slice into 1 centimetre thick strips.

Take half the strips an place them evenly across the pie vertically. Then take the remaining strips and weave them horizontally through the vertical strips. I tins it wilts best to start at the top of the pie and work down.

Fold the base pie crust over the edge of the lattice and press down with your thumbs or a fork around the edge.

Egg wash the top of the pastry then place in the oven for aapproximately 20 to 30 minutes.

Serve warm and enjoy!
